6 natural remedies that will get rid of dark circles

Your eyes are one of the very first features of your face a person will focus on first. If you have been experiencing dark circles, shadows and heavy bags around your eyes then you’ll understand the impact it has on your self confidence.

Thus, it is quite important to ensure that your eyes look refreshed, bright an alert as often as you can.

Steps you can take yourself to help prevent dark circles are to sleep with a pillow under your head. This will help stop any fluids from building in your face. It is also important to ensure you are getting 8 hours sleep every night and last but not least, watch your diet. Make sure that you are getting enough nutrition with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables as often as you can.

If you’re still finding that you wake with dark circles, read on to learn how quick and easy it is to eliminate them with these simple DIY treatments:

#1 Cucumber Slice

An old remedy which has been long used to reduce puffiness and refresh the appearance of skin around the eyes. It’s easy peasy, just place 2 slices over your eyes and leave them on for 10 minutes.

If you want maximum results then leave them on for a full half an hour with your eyes closed. If you can, try and fit this into your daily routine for longer lasting effects.

#2 Tea Bags

We love a good beauty treatment which uses recyclables. You’ll need to use a teabag which has been taken out before the milk has been poured into the brew and left to cool. The tannin in tea bags reduces any swelling and discolouration around your eyes and will need to be left on your eyes for 10-15 minutes.

For best results, use this technique in the morning when you have just woken and make sure they are chilled (keep them in the fridge over night!)

#3 Frozen Spoons

Put 2 spoons in the freezer for 10 minutes and then place under your eyes until they have cooled back down to room temperature. This is a great trick before a night out in the town as it only takes minutes and has instant visible effects. You can then go about your evening and start applying your make-up.

#4 Potatoes

The potato contains catecholase which is an enzyme that will help lighten your skin. For this, you’ll need to liquidise a whole raw potato. Scoop the potato puree out and place gently on the dark circles around your eyes and leave it there for a full half hour. Wash off with warm water. If you don’t own a liquidiser, grated slices will work just as well.

#5 Mint Leaves

Mint leaves will give your eyes that cooling effect and remove your dark circles in a very natural manner. All you need to do is crush a few leaves and apply them around your eyes for 5-10 minutes. Wash your face with a cold damp cloth and viola! Another option is to add the crushed mint leaves to tomato juice and then apply as a paste for a few minutes and rinse.

#6 Saline Solution

This technique isn’t for everyone but it is proven to be very effective. You’ll need to mix 2 cups of water with ¼ teaspoon of sea salt and/or ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Poor the solution into a bottle and tilt your head to the side so that when you pour the liquid up your left nostril, it will pour back down the right nostril.

This will get rid of any congestion which might be causing the shadows around your eyes.
